What Others are Saying more

"If Dante had had the San Miguel experience, he may have written more about heaven and less about hell."
Tom Robbins, 2008

"We writers adore the clever, imaginative Literary Sala, the enthusiastic audiences, and the opportunity to learn.”
Alice Denham, NY & SMA. Author, Sleeping With the Bad Boys.

“There are many wonderful things in San Miguel ... but one of the finest is our Literary Sala. It is always an inspiration, a wake-up to new ideas & raising of consciousness that can't be avoided, if one just shows up”. Elsmarie Norby

"I have been enormously moved by the enjoyable presentations of the San Miguel Authors Sala. Not only are the writers well-prepared, their talks are interesting and often emotional. Several years ago at the Writers' Conference, Sena Jeter Naslund made one of the most remarkable talks I have ever heard. It was a moving experience."
Wayne Greenhaw,
Montgomery, Alabama & San Miguel de Allende

“The Literary Sala events have been a constant source of intellectual stimulation and inspiration. They have become an integral part of our cultural experience and always meet our high expectations.” Adrienne and Arnie Brookstone

The Literary Sala exists to enrich your literary life, be it as a fan of literature or as a writer. After a career in book publishing, I began to write in San Miguel . . . the Literary Sala is my steadfast, codependent enabler as I shift from workaholic editor to obsessive observer and writer.
Vicki Gundrum, peripatetic, often in San Francisco and San Miguel

    Welcome Local Authors!

The San Miguel Literary Sala is pleased to provide you with the opportunity to display and sell your books here in San Miguel. We are able to spare you the expense and trouble of obtaining an individual "factura" (tax number), and to feature you prominently as a San Miguel writer. Our complete policies and payment procedures are below. We look forward to serving you.

    How To Consign Your Books
    in the Literary Sala Bookstore

    1. First, you need to become a member of the Literary Sala. CLICK HERE to see the many benefits of membership and to join. Your membership will help to defray bookstore expenses and to support the Literary Sala's many exciting programs including our monthly author readings, our bookstore, the annual Writers' Conference, our anthology, and our web site. Join here online or when you bring your books into the bookstore.

    2. Bring five to ten of each of your titles into the bookstore (Insurgentes #25) any Thursday between 10 and 1. Leona Camp or Emma Salazar will complete the paperwork for your consignment, and we will begin displaying your books!

    2. The person responsible for disbursing money to authors for books sold is
    Norma Hair
    E-mail address:   normajhair@hotmail.com
    Telephone number: 154-4524
Location for appointments to pick up money:
The courtyard of Hotel Sautto, Hernandez Macias 59 (near the intersection of Mesones)

    3. Money is disbursed on a quarterly basis, on or after the following dates:

April 15 for January to March book sales
July 15 for April to June book sales
October 15 for July to September book sales
January 15  for October to December book sales

Because we pay on a quarterly basis, there may be a time lag between when a copy of your book is sold and when you receive your money for that sale. Also, disbursements may sometimes be held up due to problems with our factura, people being out of town, illness, etc. We are all volunteers and appreciate your patience.

    4. Every three months, or less often if you choose or you are traveling, on or after the above dates, you are responsible for e-mailing Norma to arrange to obtain money that is due you. Norma will not contact you, but will wait to hear from you.

    5. You must pick up your money in person or send a personal representative, designated on your consignment form. We pay in pesos in cash. We do not write checks, and we do not send money out of town. Norma will hold any money due you until she hears from you. You are welcome to call or preferably e-mail Norma Hair at any time to find out if you have any money due you or to make an appointment to pick up your money.

    6. The bookstore takes a 30% commission of the cover price of the book. This money goes directly to the library, not the Literary Sala. (The library is a wonderful cause for you to support. Thank you!)

    7. Norma has no control over book placement in the Tienda, inventory, damage to books, or any other problem not related to the simple disbursement of funds to authors for book sales. To discuss any of these matters, please contact the bookstore Director, Emma Salazar at emmagsg@yahoo.com.mx, or the Literary Sala Bookstore liaison: Leona Camp at smacasamilagro@yahoo.com or 120-0951.

    8. We will accept books on consignment for one year. At that time all books will be reviewed for renewal of contract by the management of the Tienda. Any books not accepted for renewal must be picked up within six weeks of our notification to the author. If not picked up, these books will be considered the property of the Literary Sala.

We thank you for your support and for the opportunity to assist you in selling your books.
