"If Dante had had the San Miguel experience, he may have written more about heaven and less about hell." Tom Robbins, 2008"We writers adore the clever, imaginative Literary Sala, the enthusiastic audiences, and the opportunity to learn.”Alice Denham, NY & SMA. Author, Sleeping With the Bad Boys.“There are many wonderful things in San Miguel ... but one of the finest is our Literary Sala. It is always an inspiration, a wake-up to new ideas & raising of consciousness that can't be avoided, if one just shows up”. Elsmarie Norby"I have been enormously moved by the enjoyable presentations of the San Miguel Authors Sala. Not only are the writers well-prepared, their talks are interesting and often emotional. Several years ago at the Writers' Conference, Sena Jeter Naslund made one of the most remarkable talks I have ever heard. It was a moving experience."Wayne Greenhaw, Montgomery, Alabama & San Miguel de Allende
“The Literary Sala events have been a constant source of intellectual stimulation and inspiration. They have become an integral part of our cultural experience and always meet our high expectations.” Adrienne and Arnie Brookstone
The Literary Sala exists to enrich your literary life, be it as a fan of literature or as a writer. After a career in book publishing, I began to write in San Miguel . . . the Literary Sala is my steadfast, codependent enabler as I shift from workaholic editor to obsessive observer and writer. Vicki Gundrum, peripatetic, often in San Francisco and San Miguel

| | | | | The Literary Sala is run and supported by volunteers like you.
Thank you, one and all!
In addition to volunteer opportunities for the monthly Author Readings, annual Writers' Conference, and Literary Festivals throughout the year, here are two NEW and immediate (and fun!) ways you can make a difference in our community.
There are TWO Book Fairs coming up soon that will be superb opportunities for us to publicize our extraordinary February Writers' Conference featuring Barbara Kingsolver.
Please consider volunteering to staff our booth at one or both of them.
1. LOCAL SAN MIGUEL BOOK FAIR
The Annual Book Fair here in San Miguel.
October 16 to 29 10 AM to 8 PM daily Location: Plaza Civica
The Literary Sala will be sharing a booth with the Biblioteca Tienda. We will of course not be able to staff the booth the whole time, but if we can cover a lot of afternoons and evenings, it will be an excellent way to talk up the Conference! We will have fliers to pass out!
Think about recruiting friends to help. It will be fun and interesting and a great help to the Sala!
To volunteer, please e-mail Judyth Hill who is scheduling volunteers. Include suggestions of times that you would like to volunteer.

2. GUADALAJARA BOOK FAIR
Several of you have expressed an interest in attending the Guadalajara Book Fair. It is the second largest International Book Fair in the world, with attendance of 600,000 people. No kidding! It's HUGE and very interesting.
If you've ever attended a Book Fair, you know what an incredible experience this will be. If you've never attended a large Book Fair, get ready to be wowed!
We will be able to station volunteers at the Harper Collins booth, (publishers of The Lacuna, Barbara Kingsolver's NEW novel being featured at our 2010 Conference. This is a large, centrally located booth, right where there is a lot of action. We will have bilingual fliers to hand out.
Dates: November 28 to December 6
Any time during those dates will be very helpful to let people know about our amazing Conference. Again, please contact Judyth Hill, who will be scheduling volunteers. Judyth Hill --- rockmirth@cybermesa.com
You'll need to drive or bus to Guadalajara. We are suggesting a hotel that is a twenty-minute cab ride ($120 pesos) from EXPO where the Fair is held. All the hotels near the EXPO have been booked up for months. This hotel is in the town of Tonala, long famous for its traditional ceramics. We know it is a lovely hotel with excellent service and very inexpensive rooms.
When you decide when you plan to volunteer, please make your own hotel reservations:
Hacienda del Sol Cruz Blanca #44 Tonala
Phone: +52 (33) 3683-0275 3683-5141 3683-5142
E-mail: reserve@hotelhaciendadelsol.com (English OK. They all speak English.)
Thank you in advance if you volunteer for either of these two events. And have a good time!
